By: Chelsee MalabadFears about the pandemic can take an emotional toll. For many of us, the uncertainty of the future is one difficult challenge to handle. We don’t know how bad things can get or how long we will stay like this. And that makes it all too easy to catastrophize and spiral out into overwhelming dread and panic.
But you are not powerless since there are many things that we can do even in our own home to keep our sanity during this difficult time. 1. Health is wealth You might hear this a couple of times, but your health deserves an investment. Eating more greens, taking vitamins, getting adequate sleep and working out. We can’t risk going to fitness gyms but we can always sweat it out even in the comfort of our home. Luckily for some, they can freely exercise in their homes or jog around their exclusive subdivisions away from other people. 2. Learn new skills Bake that cookie recipe you saw on the internet. Take your scrambled egg to a next level. Plant that home flower or vegetable garden you’ve always wanted or start your own blog. Keep yourself busy. You don’t necessarily need to go out to explore new things. Sometimes, a moment spent indoors presents the perfect opportunity to master fun and new skills. 3. Plan and organize Whether it’s uncluttering your closet, arranging your room and clearing your table, changing your curtains and sheets or organizing small elements of your life gives you a sense of control no matter how big or small it is. This might also be the perfect time to plan on your new investment. 4. Stay connected In the midst of crisis, it is important to keep meaningful relationships that are close to you even without seeing them face to face. We are lucky to live in the digital age, might as well use that convenience to contact relatives and friends how they are doing. Express concern and relate. Spend time on your lovely homes with your family as much as possible. We gain a sense of place and security when we’re with people who are important to us. 5. Gratitude should be a habit Despite current hardships, we all have much to be grateful for. You have a home to sleep on, food in the table, and a family to lean on. Focusing on the positives crowd out the negative ones.In the busy routine of our lives, we tend to forget maintaining our mental being. Infectious disease outbreaks like the current corona virus pandemic can be scary – it is deadly, silent, and invisible. While it is important to be physically healthy, we should also not forget to manage our mental well being in these difficult times. We shouldn’t be taken over with the fear and stress that the current pandemic causes us. Proactively addressing our mental health affects not just us but also the people we love. It is worth the effort.
